1) Gandu

As if the name wasn’t reason enough, this black and white Bengali rap musical was banned because of its excessively explicit sex scenes and drugs.

2) Paanch

Based on the 1967-77 Joshi-Abhyankar serial murders, Anurag Kashyap’s directorial debut was banned by the Censors because of excessive violence, drug abuse and expletives. Cut to 2012, where Kashyap releases Gangs of Wasseypur. #JustSaying

3) The Pink Mirror (Gulabi Aaina)

India’s first film to revolve around Transsexuals, it is a story of two transsexuals and a gay teenager’s attempts to seduce a straight man. Needless to say, the censor board found it too crooked and perverse.

4) Kissa Kursi Ka

This movie was a satire on Indira Gandhi and her son Sanjay Gandhi. The fact that it parodied the Gandhis did not go well with Congress and they burned every single print of this film!

5) Inshallah Football

This is a documentary film about a young aspiring Kashmiri footballer who is denied the right to travel abroad on the allegations that his father is a militant. The reason for its ban was that it dealt with the ‘sensitive’ Kashmir Issue. So Haider was based in the Swiss Alps, right?

6) Dazed in Doon

A coming of age story about Howly, a student of the prestigious Doon school; the film was produced by Ratna Pathak Shah. The Doon School approached the Censor Board to ban the film as it gave a bad name to the school. We don’t need no education, Doon school!

7) Urf Professor

It is a black comedy which stars Manoj Pahwa, Sharman Joshi and Antara Mali. The reason it was banned is because of the vulgar language and explicit scenes throughout the film. Wow, thank you for nanny-ing us, dear Censor Board!
